Northern Star’s social investment program, Sikap, Tulong, Sulong (STS) extended another helping hand in partnership with Renovate to Educate (rED) to Baler Central School on Saturday, September 1, 2018. The oldest school in Aurora, Baler with 1,598 students under the supervision of the principal, Ms. Wilma Turgo, was rendered service by cleaning, repairing, repainting, and building seven tables, 21 chairs, 30 desks, six blackboards, four plant boxes, eight book shelves, and two bathrooms that will enable the school to be more conducive to learning.
There were twelve Northern Star employees who travelled all the way from Metro Manila to dedicate hours of manpower motivated by bringing forth a brighter future for the students while rED brought 13 members and four carpenters. On the other hand, the heartwarming work of more than 30 retailers with their friends from Northeast Luzon was also deeply appreciated by the principal and 11 school volunteers of Baler Central School. In fact, they did not only work on the fixtures but also donated school supplies.
A total of 77 participants who volunteered spent five hours from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon. As a result, the number of accomplished activities surpassed the set target by rED of five blackboards, five bookshelves, and 25 chairs and desks. Meanwhile, no certain target was set for tables, but the team was able to repair seven of them. This has shown not only the value for education, but above all the right attitude to work as a team for the sake of helping communities where we operate.
