Caltex Fuel Your School 2018 (FYS) capped another successful run when 30 highest need schools in Northern Luzon were awarded with Php 3-million worth of 21st century learning tools by Chevron Philippines, Inc. and Northern Star Energy Corporation (Northern Star) in ceremonies held at Aurora Park, Laoag City on September 25, 2018. The beneficiaries received high-technology teaching equipment to support their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) senior high school academic tracks.
The public high schools in the Ilocos and Cordillera regions obtain the materials by promoting FYS live and online to gain likes, shares, and fuel-ups from June 1 to July 31, 2018.
Northern Star matched the Php 1.5 million donation of CPI and added another Php 500 thousand to purchase the learning tools and run the program. Caltex partner retailers of Northern Star from La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra donated one-peso of their sales from every liter sold from the 26 participating stations. They also actively participated in organizing and conducting the awards event.
Three special awards were given, with each school getting a laptop as their prize. Named Top High Schools were Narvacan National High School, Ilocos Sur for getting the most FB likes (1,570,596); La Union National High School with the most Caltex FB fans; and Abra National High School with the most fuel ups (26.7 kl). The prizes were handed out by Atty. Raissa Bautista, Chevron Policy, Government, and Public Affairs Manager and Mr. Juan Miguel T. Delgado, Northern Star Chief Operating Officer.
Apart from representatives from CPI and Northern Star, the ceremony was also attended by executives from the American Chamber Foundation, and Department of Education.
Mr. Louie Zhang, CPI Country Chairman, acknowledged the financial and physical support of Northern Star to make the 2018 FYS the most successful since its inception in 2015.
In his Welcome Remarks, Mr. Juan Miguel T. Delgado expressed gratitude to all FYS partners and participating schools. He also said that FYS is a perfect fit for Sikap, Tulong, Sulong! (STS), Northern Star’s own social investment program and is in line with its commitment to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
“Through STS and FYS, we are able to support UNSDGs, particularly to “Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, nonviolent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.” Delgado said.
