In this era of modern technology, advanced teaching tools greatly affect the interest and ability of students to learn. But in rural areas like Cagayan Valley and Cordilleras, schools have limited access to essential 21st century learning aids.
Chevron Philippines Inc. and AmCham Foundation — in partnership with Northern Star Energy Corporation, branded marketer of Caltex in North Luzon, announced the launch Caltex Fuel Your School (CFYS) 2019 last March 22, 2019. The program aims to give the 30 highest-need public high schools in the area equipment to improve teaching in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) strand.
From June 1 to July 31, 2019, every liter of fuel purchased in participating Northern Star-operated Caltex stations, one peso was donated to raise three million pesos to purchase the tools needed by the schools. The Northern Star Retailer Partners whole-heartedly committed their support for the program since day one of the campaign. The program was extended until August 15 to give all the participating schools a chance to drive fuel-ups, promote hashtags and likes and win special awards.
The required tools and equipment were identified based on specific projects submitted by the schools to and approved by a CFYS screening committee. On August 27-28, the first turnover ceremony was held in Isabela and Cagayan with seven schools have receiving the teaching equipment they requested. The final handover ceremony will be on October 16, 2019, at 3K Hotel Santiago City, Isabela.
This is the second year that Northern Star successfully partnered with Chevron and Amcham for CFYS. The Company’s participation is in line with Sikap, Tulong, Sulong!, a Corporate Social Responsibility program that seeks to encourage the joint effort of Northern Star, its Retailer Partners, external parties and beneficiaries in areas where Northern Star operates to improve lives and promote good values.
