GoPetrol Transport Inc. trucks are a familiar presence on the roads of Palawan. They deliver fuel to commercial and industrial customers, supporting the operations that help keep communities moving.
Through #SparkDay, a project under the Sikap, Tulong, Sulong! (STS) Program, the GoPetrol team found another way to connect with the communities along the same routes. This time, they arrived carrying books and stories, spending time with young learners in two schools in Palawan.
The first stop was Iraan Elementary School in Aborlan on September 17, where GoPetrol donated 225 books and held a storytelling session for 68 students. The following day, the team travelled to Kayasan Elementary School in Cabayugan, bringing another 225 books and a storytelling session for 54 students. The school serves learners from the Batak and Tagbanua communities.
Getting to these schools meant travelling through the same unpaved roads and river crossing that are part of the students’ daily journey to school. For the GoPetrol team, seeing the community firsthand gave the visit a more personal meaning.
Fittingly, one of the stories shared was When Color Came to Town (Nang Magkakulay ang Nayon), a story about how one simple act can inspire others. In many ways, it reflected the spirit of #SparkDay: small gestures that can bring hope to a community.
As GoPetrol continues to reach across the country through its operations and STS, it hopes to find more ways to connect with and support communities along the way.
