Northern Star Energy Corporation continued its advocacy towards environmental protection by planting 1,000 fruit-bearing and timber seedlings in Sitio Conta, Brgy. Can-Asujan, Carcar City, Cebu on July 23, 2024.
This initiative, part of NStar’s Sikap, Tulong, Sulong! (STS), was done with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) and Conta Manghupi Farmers Association (COMAFA). NStar also planted 2,000 seedlings last year with RAFI and COMAFA.
The community’s involvement highlights the significance of this project not just as an environmental effort but as a livelihood program as well. Vengie Musico, the president of COMAFA, expressed her gratitude: “Thankful kami na may engagement tayo sa Northern Star for livelihood of wives. 3,000 sunod-sunod ang project. She further added, “Mahirap ang hanapbuhay, pero masarap na may tumutulong.”
Mike Ortega, Northern Star Customer Experience Manager, emphasized the importance of having the right partners like RAFI and COMAFA to make this activity possible. “This collaboration symbolizes NStar’s commitment to nurturing nature and strengthening community relationships,” he said. “By working hand in hand with local organizations, we aim to create a sustainable future for the generations to come.”
STS is Northern Star’s social investment program in partnership with various non-government organizations. It undertakes corporate social responsibility projects in the areas of education, health, safety, environment, livelihood and values formation.
